Duke Gui’s Residences

Located at 11 Fangjiayuan Hutong near Chaoyangmen, this courtyard was called Fangjiayuan in the Ming Dynasty. After the residence was abandoned, Jingye Nunnery was built in its place.

Then on the site of Jingye Nunnery, a Qing Dynasty general Shengbao built his house. Later the residence was bestowed by the court to Dowager Cixi’s younger brother, Guixiang or Duke Cheng’en, hence the name Duke Guis Residence.
