Prince Chun’s Residences
Located at the northern bank of Houhai Lake, it was originally the residence of Mingzhu, secretary of the Grand Council in the early Qing Dynasty. Emperor Qianlong conferred the title of Prince Cheng to his 11th son Yongli in 1789 and bestowed Mingzhu’s residence to Yongli.
The house was then rebuilt according the standard for a prince’s residence. In 1888, the 14th year of Emperor Guangxu’s reign, the house was renamed as Prince Chun’s Residence, where the last emperor of the Qing Dynasty, Puyi (Xuantong) was born. After Puyi’s enthronement, his father Zaifeng became the prince regent.
