Located at 5,7,9, the residence was at first owned by Jia Hanfu, governor of Shaanxi Province in the early Qing Dynasty.

Then it became the home of Linqing, secretary in the Grand Secretariat and director-general of the Grand Canal in southern China during the years of Emperors Daoguang and Jiajing of the Qing Dynasty. It is said that the house was built by the famous architect Li Yu (Liweng).
