Mei Lanfang (1894-1961) was from Taizhou in Jiangsu Province. He was a renowned Peking Opera performer. Regarded as the best of the four great Peking Opera perform- ers of the female dan role, he had a style of his own and gave birth to the Mei school. He was Director of Chinese Traditional Opera Academy.
