Prince Fu’s Residence (Ninth Prince’s Residence)

Located at 137 Chaoyangmennei Dajie in Dongcheng District, this was at first built as the new residence of Prince Yi. Because after the death of Prince Yi—the 13th son Yunxiang of Emperor Kangxi, his residence was changed into Xianliang Temple, the emperor bestowed another place to his grandson, the Prince Presumptive Hongxiao. To differentiate from the old residence,it was called Prince Yi’s New Residence.

After the youngest son Yihui of Emperor Daoguang was conferred the title of Commandary Prince Fu in 1850, the 30th year of Emperor Daoguang’s reign,he moved out of the royal palace in 1864, the 3rd year of Emperor Tongzhi, and lived here, renaming it as Commandary Prince Fu’s Residence.As he was the 9th son in the family, the place was also called the“Ninth Prince’s Residence.”
