Zhu Qiqian’s Former Residences

Located at 3 Zhaotangzi Hutong west of Jianguomen in Dongcheng District, this was Zhu Qiqian’s home since 1930s.Zhu Qiqian (1872-1964) was from Kaiyang in Guizhou Province. He was a successful candidate in the imperial examinations at the provincial level in the reign period of Emperor Guangxu, serving as a supervisor at the Translators Institute of the Met- ropolitan University at the end of the Qing Dynasty.

Early in the Republic of China period, he was the cabinet minister re- sponsible for transport, the cabinet ministerin charge of inter- nal affairs, and acting premier. In 1930 he founded the first nationalresearchinstituteofancientarchitecture--ChineseAr- chitecture Society, published many works of high academic standard, and cultivated a group of experts of ancient architecture.
